Good News Story – Jamie’s Success at McDonald’s 🍔

Meet Jamie, a trainee supported on the Mencap Workable NI Programme, who is presenting a Mencap Employer of the Month Award to his workplace McDonald’s to recognise how they have gone above and beyond to be an inclusive Employer and exemplify Mencap values.
Jamie has been working at McDonalds for over a year, and the team have been incredibly proactive in supporting Jamie to fulfil his potential and gain new skills in his first paid role through the adjustments they have made and positive action they have taken. They have embraced the support provided through the Workable NI programme wholeheartedly, taking on board all the advice and guidance shared by Employment Officer Alex to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
Jamie has also put in a lot of effort to learn his role, gain a clear understanding of employer expectations, adhere to policies and procedures, and continuously develop his customer service skills. It means a lot to Jamie to be able to phone his Employment Officer whenever he needs support to resolve an issue and to have regular meetings with his Employment Officer and Manager in the workplace to reflect on how things have been going and what goals they will work towards next.
Adam, Assistant Manager at McDonald’s, said the following words about Jamie:
“Since joining our team, Jamie has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment to customer satisfaction. His dedication ensures that every customer leaves our premises feeling valued and eager to return. Jamie is a valued member of our team, contributing positively to our inclusive and supportive work environment. We look forward to celebrating his continued achievements and growth in the future.”
Well done to McDonald’s and Jamie!
Good News Story – Claire’s Marathon Achievement 🏅
Now Groups Workable NI participant, Claire Mooney McGurk, has been on the programme since 17/01/25 and has some exciting news to share. Claire has been running long distance for the past few years and has completed at least 2 marathons prior to gaining a place in the London Marathon this year.
Claire made it a family event, booking plane tickets and hotel accommodation for herself, her husband and son and daughter. She planned and carried out a tough training regime to make sure she was in tip top shape for the race, and planned the trip meticulously.
Planning this was a challenge for Claire as she has ADHD, so carrying it all out, training, organising the trip, and competing was nothing short of amazing!
